| ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN DESIGN servo, a research and design collaborative co-founded by lecturers David Erdman and Marcelyn Gow, designed the exhibition Dark Places, which was on view at the Santa Monica Museum of Art earlier this year. Professor Craig Hodgetts and Ming Fung (M.Arch. 80) have been selected to renovate the historic Linda Lee Japanese language movie house in downtown Los Angeles in order to create an Asian American theater and cultural center. Professor Mark Mack won a Korea National Housing competition to develop a new model of low-density residential community living in Pan-Gyo, Seongnam City. He received the award in association with Dongwoo Architects of Seoul. Professor Richard Weinstein served as a juror on Architecture magazines 53rd annual Progressive Architecture awards. ART Professor John Baldessari was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the 2005 National Arts Awards presented by Americans for the Arts. Among the venues for his solo exhibitions in 2006 are Marian Goodman, Paris and New York; Sprüth, Magers, Lee Gallery, London; and Cristina Guerra, Lisbon. Recent work by Manuela Friedmann, assistant to the chair, was exhibited last fall at TAKADA Gallery, San Francisco. |  | Woodcuts: 1982-2002, an exhibition of work by professor Roger Herman, was on view earlier this year at INMO, Los Angeles. Hermans work was also shown at Daniel Hug, Los Angeles, in the spring. Professor Mary Kelly had a solo exhibition at Rosamund Felsen Gallery, Los Angeles, earlier this year. The Art of Chess, a group exhibition last fall at Luhring Augustine, New York, included work by professor emeritus Paul McCarthy. The Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego installed Pleasure Point, a new sculpture by professor emerita Nancy Rubins early this year. No, I Never Lip Syncd, a film by visiting associate professor Julia Scher 75, premiered at the 35th International Film Festival in Rotterdam in January. CENTER FOR INTERCULTURAL PERFORMANCE (CIP) CIPs 2006 Asia Pacific Performance Exchange Fellowship Program will host 16 artists from Asia and the United States for a six-week residence this summer. In January, CIP presented Can You Hear Me? Asian Dance Voices at Glorya Kaufman Hall. The program offered the United States premiere of the work of three leading Asian dancers: Chey Chankethya from Cambodia, Baghawan Ciptoning from Indonesia and Umesh Shetty from Malaysia. The goal is to design and build a $100 laptop to be distributed by the millions to developing countries through their ministries of education. Allen is overseeing the industrial design of the laptop, which includes areas of alternative power and sustainable design.
