Koning + Eizenberg, the architecture firm of Hank Koning '81 and Julie Eizenberg '81, received two AIA/LA Awards 2000 - adaptive reuse for the Avalon Hotel and cost-effective design for Rad Clothing.

"Dead Man Walking," a new opera composed by Jake Heggie '84 with a libretto by Terrence McNally, was premiered by the San Francisco Opera last October.

"In Between Places," a photography show by Uta Barth '85, was on view from November through January at the Henry Art Gallery, Seattle, Washington. The show will travel to the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, Texas, in May.

Guthrie + Buresh, the architecture firm of Tom Buresh '85 and Danelle Guthrie '86, was chosen by Architecture magazine as one of the "LA 12," a list compiled by the publication every 12 years. The firm of Koning + Eizenberg was also named.

Espresso Mi Cultura, Hollywood, California, presented a solo art exhibition by Antonio Rael '86 entitled "VIVA 2001: Images from Our Cultura" last January.

"Cut Up," a solo show of mixed media paintings by Merry-Beth Noble '87, was on view at Ojalá Gallery, Los Angeles, in February. Last fall, Noble participated in a collaborative installation and performance entitled "An Evening of Beauty and Madness" with choreographer Diane Chase Angier '87, presented by the Chase Dance Theater, New York.

Collage Dance Theater, under the direction of Heidi Duckler '88, performed "UnderEden," an original site-specific performance piece, at the historic Eden Roc Hotel, Miami Beach, Florida, in January.

Countertenor Brian Asawa '89 performed solo with the L.A. Baroque Orchestra last summer. He also recorded a disc of songs by Ned Rorem with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.

Works by Dianna Cohen '89 were included in "West Coast Currents," an exhibition of California art, at Lisa Coscino Gallery, Pacific Grove, California, last fall. Other works of hers will be on display for two years in a group exhibit at the United States Embassy in Namibia.
