National Dance/Media Fellowship
Each year the program will admit six accomplished professionals from
the dance field. In addition, two highly qualified UCLA graduate students
will be admitted to the program.
Terms of Residency
Fellows will participate in ten weeks of full-time, advanced dance
documentation training workshops held on the UCLA campus during the
winter quarters (January to March).
Fellows will receive travel reimbursement, and a stipend of $5,000
to cover living expenses. Limited funds will also be available for expenses
related to the workshop projects. Student fellows will not receive stipend,
but will receive 12-16 units of credit for enrollment in the workshop.
At the conclusion of their residencies, fellows will be eligible to
apply for the Independent Project Development Funds at a total amount
of $100,000 made available through the National
Initiative to Preserve Americas Dance (NIPAD)
Curricula for the Fellowship Program
Who may apply?
Professionals from the field of dance and/or media with a demonstrated
record of excellence and productivity, and a commitment to continuing
to work in dance/media.
Applicants may be:
- videographers of dance documentation
- producer/directors/creators of dance/media programming for TV, cable
and/or film
- producer/directors of documentary and ethnographic films on dance
- choreographers with an interest in and history of working in dance/media
documentation and/or creation
- citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
Student applicants must be a UCLA graduate student in good standing
within a degree program in areas such as, film and television, ethnography,
choreography, dance, and cultural studies and be enrolled in the Winter
Quarter.
How to apply? Include the following information to the address below:
- A full curriculum vitae;
- Statement of Interest: Outline your interest in the program
and comment on ways in which a residency program like this would enhance
your work in dance and the media;
- Two sample videos of work: Choreographers can submit tapes
of live performances and/or dance made for film or video. Cue samples
to the ten minute passage you wish to have viewed and include a brief
description (not more than one page) of the section and the circumstance
under which it was made.
- A list of three references: one must be a choreographer/dance
artist.
