The UCLA National Dance/Media Project has formed a national partnership with the National Initiative to Preserve American’s Dance (NIPAD) named Save As: Dance. Funded by the PEW Charitable Trusts, Save As: Dance will support a broad range of innovative documentation and preservation activities to enhance and broaden the conception, production, and dissemination of dance materials.

NIPAD, administered at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, is established to foster America's dance legacy by supporting dance documentation and preservation as an integral and ongoing part of the creation, transmission and performance of dance.

UCLA will serve as a professional development partner to the NIPAD by implementing research initiatives, professional training fellowships, leadership seminars, and conferencing activities that capitalize on the assets of a major research university. The cumulative effects of these two programs will be a broader knowledge base from which to promote increased standards in the field.

The UCLA National Dance/Media Project consists of three components which overlap and support one another:

  • UCLA National Dance/Media Leadership Group
  • UCLA National Dance/Media Fellowship Program
  • National Conference on Dance, Media and Documentation
  • Major CIP initiatives
