L.A. Based Professional Opportunities in Arts Education

Los Angeles County Arts Commission (LACAC)
LACAC provides an online directory of Los Angeles County Arts Education Programs. This agency is also renowned for its policy work at the district level regarding arts education. The site also provides grant opportunities to local artists, and summer internships for university students to work with community arts organizations in Los Angeles. Internship information is found at: http://www.lacountyarts.org/internship.html.

Los Angeles City Cultural Affairs Department (LACAD)
LACAD provides a range of programs that can be viewed at their site. Links to city run community arts centers and programs are available – including the Watts Towers Art Center.

Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD)
Arts Education at LAUSD coordinates district wide arts education programs, and often hires credentialed art teachers to work in the schools. Their office states that, “the arts are one of humankind’s most moving forms of communication, and provide a balance in school curriculum that is essential for the development of tomorrow’s leaders.

Music Center Education Division (MCED) http://www.musiccenter.org/education
MCED coordinates a professional teaching artist roster, and provides excellent professional development opportunities for teaching artists and classroom teachers.

Getty Museum
Getty provides Graduate Internships to support full-time positions for students who intend to pursue careers in fields related to the visual arts.

The Center for Community Learning (CCL)
