Be an ArtsBridge Community Partner

To become an ArtsBridge Community Partner, contact the program staff by email or telephone, and submit a letter of interest to the ArtsBridge office describing how ArtsBridge could support the pedagogical goals and vision of your learning community. Please overview the arts programming currently being offered to your students and teachers, general demographic information about your school community, and a link to your web site (if available). Describe any issues, assets, or challenges that you would like ArtsBridge to take into consideration. Interest from potential partners is welcomed year round, but core partnerships are determined between May and July prior to the academic year in question.

Criteria for Choosing Community Partners:

Priority is given to schools that are struggling with their academic performance and believe that creativity is an important part of any quality educational reform. In addition, precedence is given to schools that demonstrate a firm commitment to ongoing collaboration with ArtsBridge. This is reflected in the ability to unite a cohort of classroom teachers at the school site, to participate in planning and evaluation tasks, and to designate an administrative contact at the school site. ArtsBridge gives primacy to schools that are interested in advocating for, and institutionalizing, ongoing arts education in their school and school district. Finally, ArtsBridge spreads its efforts across elementary, middle, and high school settings with a particular interest in college preparation.

Testimonies from 2005-2006 ArtsBridge Community Partners:
“It’s a real benefit to have the college students work with our students because they bring with them the mentoring aspect. Their presence allows students to talk to someone who is in college and being successful. The program benefits the educational process because it allows college students to intern with teachers who are already doing the job. I have heard nothing but positive responses from our teachers working with the program” (March 29, 2006).
Gwendolyn Lockhart, Vice Principal John Muir Middle School
“We are privileged to be able to have the continued assistance of ArtsBridge in actively helping us to improve the academic performance of our students…A well organized and outstanding program will do much to motivate our students to achieve a the highest level of performance…They [AB Scholars] can play a major role in enhancing the atmosphere of the school and of their neighborhood by showing pride in its artistic value through this UCLA Arts program” (3/17/06).
Dr. Marvin Avila, Vice Principal David Starr Jordan High School
“ArtsBridge really does help the kids to have art. The partnership gives [us] the opportunity to have dance at school. It brings people together in a positive way…I learned about new things. I learned about the cultures behind hip-hop and West African dance.”
Shannon Townsend, 10th grader SAMO High Student
